Why this move to South Africa?

First of all, the history of South Africa and its region is closely linked to that of its mining industry. For over a century, the country has developed thanks to the abundance of its subsoil resources: gold, platinum, diamonds, coal, iron, chrome, manganese, uranium, etc.

The mining sector still plays a dominant role in the economy: it accounted for 7.3% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in 2018 for mining activities alone, and almost 50% of exports in value.

South Africa has deep underground mines that make it a particularly important country in terms of global mineral reserves (90% of global platinum reserves, 74% of chromium reserves and 14% of gold reserves).

As a result, the major companies operating in South Africa have significant needs for equipment and services to expand their production capacity, increase the profitability of their operations while ensuring the safety of their operations.

Some recent unfortunate events are a reminder that the world of underground mining is demanding when it comes to safety. In 2021, 72 miners died in various mines in the country, compared to 60 deaths in 2020 and 51 in 2019.

« For these various reasons, SUB’ROCA wished to establish itself physically in this region and to create a local structure, and it is quite naturally that we have associated ourselves with Frank Hurst, a well-known personality in the world of underground works » indicates the General Management of SUB’ROCA.

The testimony of Frank HURST

CEO of SUB’ROCA South Africa

« I accepted the challenge of being responsible for the business development and management of the South African company because I like the approach, culture and professionalism of Subroca.

I particularly appreciate the youthfulness of the team as well as their solid experience, fast decision making and high quality products, and above all I believe in the Southern African market.

Indeed, it is important to have a local subsidiary and to contribute to the South African community in terms of local sourcing or manufacturing and creating jobs. Also, from an environmental point of view, manufacturing in South Africa eliminates costly transport from Europe and reduces the CO2 footprint. And then, it’s also about offering local service and spare parts, which is a real asset for all customers, we are only a phone call away.

SUB’ROCA South Africa’s strengths are: well-designed, high quality products, a company small enough to provide customised solutions but large enough to handle major projects, fast delivery times, flexible solutions through modular design. »
